Offstride

Gait which is no longer at regular trot.

Outclassed

A competitor is outclassed when he goes up against opponents of superior quality.

Pace

The speed of a race.  There is pace when the race is fast.

Pace setter

Horse whose role in a race is to facilitate the task of another runner from the same stable by setting a sustained pace.

Pacer’s gait

The horse gallops with its forelegs and trots with its hindlegs (literally to ‘hobble’).  This gait is reprehensible and therefore not authorized.

Paddle out

Said of the horse that does not throw its forelegs in front but on the side.

Pedigree

Geneology of the horse. All the pedigrees of the horse are entered in the stud-book.

Placed

A horse that finishes among the first 3 in a race.

Prize money

Amount generally distributed to the first 5 horses to place.
